Advancing vital mental health research and innovation in Australia.

For over 20 years, One in Five has been dedicated to raising funds for mental health research. And thanks to the generosity of all of our supporters, we’re proud to announce a new One in Five Research Fellowship into Depression and Suicide Prevention with the Department of Psychiatry at Monash University.
“On average, 8.6 Australians die from suicide each day,” said Lou Wardlaw, Chair of One in Five. “This is a devastating statistic and we want to help reverse it. This new fellowship will help accelerate and unlock cutting-edge treatments and bring hope to people affected by mental illness. We know that mental health research is severely underfunded and we're so proud to support our longstanding partners at Monash who are taking on this important work.”
The Depression and Suicide Research Fellowship will engage a Monash scientist to investigate a range of identified molecules as targets for depression, anxiety and more. Their research will explore personalised mental health treatments that have the potential to reverse the underlying pathology of depression.
Speaking about One in Five’s contribution, Professor Eric Morand, Dean of Clinical and Molecular Medicine at Monash University shared, “Your generosity empowers us as we explore and develop innovative treatments. We share your dedication, and are driven by this same goal.”
